Research Finding:
The special extract in
Ginkgo Biloba comprises two key groups of compounds, the ginkgo
flavonglycosides and terpene lactones.
The flavonglycosides and
bio-flavonglycosides principally made up of mono-di-and
tri-glycosides of quercetin, kaempferol and isorhamnetin.
These
compounds are primarily responsible for Ginkgo’s antioxidant
activity. The terpene lactones comprise four ginkgolides plus
bilobalide.
The ginkgolides play an important role in ginkgo’s
circulatory effects and its ability to exhibit platelet activity
factor. Bilobalide appears to possess pronounced neuroprotective
properties.*
